The lymphatic system is a part of the immune system.
It has a vital role in removing excess fluid from the tissues.
It is made up of tiny vessels which carry lymph (a clear fluid) throughout the body.
Lymph vessels are located all over the body and connect to the bloodstream at strategic points.
Lymph is collected and transported to the lymph glands (lymph nodes) which are located along the lymph vessels.
There, the lymph fluid is filtered and used to make new cells.
When the lymphatic system is not working properly it can result in swelling and a build up of fluid in the tissues.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a very gentle, non-invasive treatment with no side effects.
The therapist will use different types of gentle pressure, kneading and movement to trigger the lymphatic flow and encourage it to drain away.
How does it work?
The lymphatic system is very responsive to manual pressure, hence Manual Lymphatic Drainage.
The lymphatic system is also very sensitive to touch, so the therapist will use very gentle techniques to stimulate your lymphatic system to drain.
